Our first night race of 2024 was Points Race 7 for Atmore RC. The decision to go night racing in the middle of summer worked out awesome. We started the day out feeling the heat of a sunny summer day. The gnats would not leave us alone which was pretty annoying to say the least.

We got through our test-n-tune time, did a quick drivers meeting, and went into our Dialin Jackpot. The Dialin Jackpot was uneventful with the participants mainly using it as a final time trial. Ricktook the Jackpot money running 0.0148 off his dialin.

Going into round one we normally have a short intermission to let us import the registration info. This gave us a chance turn the lights on and Tony to help us with some preventative insect control. What a life saver that was and a special thanks to Tony (RC Cutta). The night air was awesome compared to the day time and there was no sign of any more insects.

The RBA Racing / H2O Leak Detection 2.90 class saw 23 entries wind down to DeWayne and Jonathan in the finals. Unfortunately DeWayne would turn it red by 0.0016 handing the win to Jonathan. Jonathan extends his points lead to 5.

The Open Bracket class had 14 entries to start the night. We got a brand new first time winner as Pops made it through the winner’s side to meet Rick in the finals. Rick would need to beat Pops twice and would get the first win, but Pops would not be denied. Pops got the hole shot, but Rick would pull around him near the finish line, only to break out by 5 thousandths of a second. Rick extends his points lead to 12.

Super Stock only had 6 entries but the racing was close as usual. The finals would be between Johnny and Ken, with Johnny taking the win with a faster reaction time and a slightly faster (2.293 vs 2.304) ET. Jimmie’s points lead is reduced to 1.

Finally, the 2.50 class had 10 entries. This is our newest class and is currently being dominated by Robert. He’s got his car dialed in but more importantly he’s got the tree figured with some very consistent and quick reaction times. Robert took his two entries to a one-two finish giving him his third straight win. We’re going to have to consider a bounty! Robert extends his points lead to 3.

Congrats to the winners! Special thanks to our operations team and our sponsors! Show them some love: Johnson FORD INC, David’s Catfish House – Atmore, Magnolia & Co. The General Store & K & N Sugar Shop Sweets & Treats, RBA Racing, H2O Leak Detection and Pool Repair, and Pensacola Pool Services

Our next race is July 13th! We’ll see you at the Slab!
