2024 Points Series Race 14 recap time! We started the day with three points races left on the schedule and this day wouldn’t disappoint. Beautiful blue skies and mid 80s made it easy to enjoy the time with a great group of guys and gals.
We started the day with time trials as usual. We tried our mixed mode tree types meaning one lane would get a pro tree and the other would get a full tree. We had decided to start running a full tree on our Open Bracket class so obviously we need to be able to practice without forcing the computer operator to switch back and forth.
Shortly after noon we started the dialin jackpot. Of the 9 entries, only 3 didn’t break out. Johnny was closest to the dial running 0.0114 off to grab the jackpot.
The H2O Leak Detection and RBA Racing 2.90 Index class is usually our largest and that remained true with 22 entries. I keep saying this class is so much more competitive that at the beginning of the year and its true. Brandon and Jonathan made it through the field to the finals. Brandon has made a late season charge in the points and he continued that by bringing one of his points entries all the way to the finals. Jonathan’s entry on the other hand had lost first round so it wasn’t accruing points. Both cars ran dead on their dial with Brandon being 2 thousandths closer, but Jonathan’s 0.0098 reaction time gave him the holeshot win. Brandon’s performance resulted in him closing the points gap to result in a tie at the top of the 2.90 points between Jonathan and Brandon. Mike couldn’t make it so he fell to 7 points out, but still within striking distance.
The RBA Racing Open Bracket class is my pick for the “next big thing”. Moving to a full tree appeals to a lot of people and more people around the country are seeing this class really is the most cost effective way to join the fun. We had some new faces and a bunch of regulars make of the 13 entries. Remember this class awards a brand new Losi 22s RTR to the points champ courtesy of RBA Racing. Shout out to class newbie Mike for making it to three cars on his first time out! The finals would see a second meeting between Johnny and Jonathan. They had previously met in the finals on the winners bracket where Johnny ran deadon with a 1 sending Jonathan into the losers bracket. Jonathan got by Mike to get back to the overall finals where he would have to beat Johnny twice. It would only take one race as Jonathan would breakout by one thousandth meaning Johnny got to hold the plaque for the winner’s photo. Rick extended his points lead to 20. With one regular and one double points race left it’s still possible for Brandon to come back.
Super Stock is the fastest class we run. Robert had been pretty dominate during the first half of the year before shifting his focus to winning the 2.50 Index championship. He was working on a friend’s car and decided to enter it. After starting the day with 8 entries, the finals came down to Robert and JR. Robert got the holeshot on the instant green but JR still had a shot with his faster 6ft time, right up until he slapped the wall. Robert took home the winners plaque and hold it with the “serious” pose for the photo. Jimmy holds on to a 9 point lead in points over JR.
The RBA Racing and H2O Leak Detection 2.50 Index class was previously clinched by Robert, but Rick and Brandon wanted to take a shot at a plaque. They would fight it out but Brandon would be victorious.
Following the day’s activities Robert brought out his dry tire outlaw for a quick hit. He laid down the fastest pass we’ve seen yet at the Slab with a 1.7901 @ 75.57mph.
As usual we appreciate everyone’s patience and participation to make the race go smooth. Big thanks to our volunteer staff for everything they do!
